More than 90% of Suriname’s land is covered in vast rainforests.  While they’ve been a leader in managing and promoting carbon neutrality, upcoming large-scale offshore oil and gas exploration raises concerns about marine and coastal degradation and their impact on local communities’ rights.

Through technical assistance and capacity development the BIOGOV Project will support Suriname to govern, manage and protect its biodiversity more effectively, advocate for the needs, representation and inclusion of women and Indigenous and Tribal Peoples (ITP), and to localize international biodiversity agreements in national frameworks.
