Post-2020 Conference Financial Tracking Report

On June 17, 2021, Canada hosted the International Donors’ Conference in Solidarity with Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants in collaboration with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and IOM, the International Organization for Migration. UNHCR and IOM are co-leads of R4V, the Regional Inter-Agency Coordination Platform for Refugees and Migrants from Venezuela.

The Donors’ Conference was an opportunity to highlight the significant efforts to date of host countries and the international community, as well as to mobilize much-needed additional resources. The Conference included a broad range of actors and brought forward the voices of those impacted by the crisis, particularly women and girls.

“It has been a privilege for Canada to host this event, which demonstrates our continued commitment to respond to this crisis. We applaud the solidarity shown today by partners and donor countries and recognize the enormous efforts of host countries to mobilize opportunities for the millions of Venezuelans seeking new lives across the region.”

– Karina Gould, Canada’s Minister of International Development

In the lead-up to the Donors’ Conference, in partnership with Global Affairs Canada, Alinea International produced a report that tracks and details pledges announced by donors at the 2020 International Donors’ Conference in Solidarity with Venezuelan Refugees and Migrants.

“The exodus of Venezuelans fleeing their country constitutes one of the world’s largest migratory crises, the likes of which we have never seen before in this hemisphere,” said Shantel Jordison, Alinea Project Director and Director, Americas.

“As a Canadian, I am proud to see Global Affairs Canada stepping up and also rallying support from the donor community to ease the suffering of Venezuelan migrants and refugees. It was a pleasure to work so closely with Canada’s Venezuela Task Force on bringing this important project to life.”

The objectives of this report are to follow up on commitments and provide additional details on pledges made at the 2020 Conference. To produce this report, Canada collaborated with donors, multilateral development banks and other stakeholders.
