Indicative LOE/Time Frame July 30, 2024-March 31, 2028, with possibility for up to a 12-month extension, contingent on donor funding. The position is a 12-month period contract with an option for annual renewal based on job performance.
Citizenship Fijian
Language Requirements Excellent command of English and Fijian, both written and verbal

Project Description:
The Pasifika WE-Guardians project aims to boost climate resilience in women-led nature-based businesses across Fiji, Samoa, and Tuvalu. By leveraging traditional, local, and Indigenous knowledge, we support these enterprises in adapting to extreme weather conditions through innovative climate change adaptation strategies. The project fosters sustainable business practices and policy influence, enhancing local and regional economies.

Key Responsibilities
The Finance Coordinator will support the Field Manager (FM) by managing use of project finances consistent with Alinea policy, donor requirements and Fiji law.  The Finance Coordinator will maintain accurate financial records and prepare timely, accurate financial reports contributing vital information to project management decisions.  These reports will be provided to Alinea head office for project monitoring and to be incorporated into financial reports to the Alinea board of directors and to the project donor.

The Finance Coordinator will oversee financial management of each sub-grant, ensuring that regular review of partner records, include adequate documentation to support reasonable and allowable expenses claimed to the project.

Financial duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Manage the use of project finances in compliance with Alinea policy, donor requirements and Fiji law.
  • Work closely with Alinea head office to ensure that financial recordkeeping is accurate and auditable.  Submit accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Responsible for ensuring that general accounting functions are completed on a timely basis, including payroll, accounts payables paid within terms and accounts receivable actively managed.  Maintain multi-currency accounting systems, general ledgers, sub-ledgers and job costing systems as required. Complete month-end closing and journal entry preparation and bank reconciliations. Maintain detailed and accurate records for all financial transactions in an organized and professional manner.
  • Facilitate regular internal and external audits of the project and of partners.
  • Ensure Alinea’s program adheres to Government of Fiji’s laws, including financial reporting, tax, labor and proper registration with all relevant authorities as required.
  • Oversee the management of grants to local partners. This includes assessing financial management capacity of each local partner, and providing recommendations for training to ensure that each partner has systems in place that will allow them to manage the project funds granted to them.
  • Review all proposed budgets submitted by partners to ensure reasonability and appropriateness of the proposed use of funds.
  • Conduct other duties assigned by the Field Manager (FM) and Project Director.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in finance management of a complex internationally funded project.
  • Experience with financial management in compliance with requirements of major donors.
  • Experience with multiple sub-grant relationships is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a relevant field plus extensive experience in financial management.
  • Excellent organizational, leadership and management skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to situations as required due to changes on the ground
