Project Description:
United for Care-Sensitive Approaches (UCARE) is a CAD $9.8 five-year project funded by Global Affairs Canada which will run from April 2024 – March 2029. The project seeks to enhance the well-being of women and adolescent girls in northern Ghana by redistributing and reducing the heavy, unequal and unfair burden of unpaid care and domestic work (UCW) they perform. The project operates within the Canadian Feminist International Assistance Policy and supports the objectives of the Government of Ghana in meeting its commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, especially SDG 5.4.
The Role
The Project Field Manager is responsible for the successful implementation of the UCARE Project overseeing management and coordination of project operations in Ghana. The Project Field Manager works closely with the Finance Director as part of the Senior Management Team and is based in the Tamale Project Management Office.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide overall direction and day-to day management to achieve the Project’s expected results and the implementation of project activities, managing all aspects of the project cycle
- Provide effective leadership to the project team adhering to professional human resource standards for employee management and well-being
- Ensure the Alinea International Due Diligence, Code of Conduct and ethical practices are adhered to by all staff and suppliers
- Setting up of project office in Tamale and ongoing staff recruitment as required
- With the Finance Director, ensure effective and transparent financial practices, procedures and reporting
- Manage relationships with key government stakeholders, implementing partners, industry associations, sub-contractors, service providers and local NGOs
- Anticipate and identify risks and issues and address them in a timely and effective manner
- Develop and maintain a network of experts/consultants in the field, develop terms of reference, manage performance and oversee technical assignments
- Support and coordinate completion of all project reports including AWPs, semi-annual reports and annual progress reports
- Forecasting, budget development and activity budget monitoring
- Convene and lead project implementation meetings, including the Quarterly Project Management Review to assess progress towards results
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in development studies, public administration, management, psychology or related field
- 10 years of progressively responsible work experience managing teams to deliver large, multi-year development projects
- Commitment to and experience delivering high level gender equality outcomes
- Demonstrated practical experience leading project teams in a development project setting
- Strong understanding of decentralized governance system in Ghana
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills, and excellent writing skills
- Understanding of project management processes, strong skills using MS Word suite of software
- Experience living and working in Northern Ghana
